About

Disclaimer: everything written on this site is written in a personal capacity. It doesn't neccesarily represent the views of any organisations I'm a part of. It absolutely does not represent the views of my employer ... or, for that matter, my mother.

My name is Phil Dickens. I'm an anarcho-syndicalist, antifascist, and trade unionist from Liverpool, England. I'm an active member of the Solidarity Federation and Liverpool Antifascists. I'm also a union rep, health & safety rep, and young members' activist in PCS - though, as an anarcho-syndicalist, I am answerable to rank-and file members rather than the bureaucracy, and always will be.

Somewhere in the midst of all this, I have been able to set up home with my fiancé - who blogs here. We have two cats called Salem (my "appropriate black cat") and Mogget, and a dog called Izzy.

This Site
All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume. - Noam Chomsky
Truth, Reason & Liberty makes no pretences towards being a comprehensive news source, it is not one. Nor does it claim to be the online presence of a massive activist movement as, again, it is not. There is only one person behind this site, and it almost certainly shows in the irregularity of updates, amongst other things.

However, it does hope to present an interesting, informed, and informative view of those issues that it does cover. One that strays far from the uniform consensus of the liberal/conservative mainstream to offer an unapologetically partisan voice from the radical left, but nevertheless a view that makes its points with clarity and reason, not through generalised slander or unfounded ad hominems. Above all, the intention of this site is to make the reader think twice about events that are going on in the world, about the victims involved, and about the role those responsible play in our society.

Property is Theft!
We are convinced that freedom without Socialism is privilege and injustice, and that Socialism without freedom is slavery and brutality. - Mikhail Bakunin
Property is Theft! is not a commentary on current events, but rather a blog about the philosophical basis for my own anarchist principles. I try to keep it topical, and to relate it to issues that are ongoing where possible, but rather than providing an opinion on any single given event, the point is to look at both the practical application of anarchist ideas in the present day and the organisation required to work towards a non-hierarchical society in the future.

My aim isn't to provide fodder for academic discussion, but to provoke practical debate amongst anarchists and libertarians living in the real world.
